Sand Writing

There are many brief stories which contain the plentiful philosophy. They make us grow and be mature. They teach us how to face joys and sorrows, gain and loss in our life. Now I’d like to share one of them with all of you.

The story tells that two friends were walking through the desert.

During some point of the journey, they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, he wrote in the sand: Today my best friend slapped me in the face.

They kept on walking, until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but his friend saved him. After he recovered from the fright, he wrote on a stone: Today my best friend saved my life.

The friend, who had slapped and saved his best friend, asked him, “After I hurt you, you wrote in the sand, and now, you write on a stone, why?”

The other friend replied: “When someone hurts us, we should write it down in sand, where the winds of forgiveness can erase it away, but when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in stone where no wind can ever erase it.”

Learn to write your hurts in sand , then you forget about the hatred. Learn to carve your gratitude in stone, then you know how to care about other people around you . This is what I have learned from this story. And I also believe that if everyone does like this, the world will become a better place.

伤害只写在沙地上

有许多短小精悍的故事包含着丰富的人生哲理，它们让我们成长、成熟，它们教会我们如何面对生活中的欢乐和哀伤，所失和所得。现在我就想和大家分享这其中的一个。

故事讲的是正在步行穿越沙漠的两位朋友。

途中某处，俩人发生了争执，其中一位一巴掌扇在另一位的脸上。被扇的那位很伤心，但他一言不发，在沙地上写道：“今天我最好的朋友扇了我一巴掌。”

他们继续前行，找到了一片绿洲，并决定在此洗个澡。挨掴而受到伤害的那一位因陷入泥潭而溺水了，好在他的朋友救了他。从惊魂中苏醒之后，他在石头上刻道：“今天我最好的朋友救了我。”

那位扇过他又救了他的朋友问道：“我伤害你时，你写在沙地上；而现在我救了你，你却刻在石头上，为什么？”

他回答说：“当别人伤害我们时，我们只宜写在沙地上，宽恕的风会将它吹得了无痕迹；但当别人帮了我们时，我们应当将它刻在石头上，什么风也不能将其磨灭。”

学着将你的伤痛写在沙地上，这样你就会忘记仇恨；学着将你的感激刻在石头上，这样你就会懂得如何去关心你周围的人。这就是我从这个故事中得到的启发，并且我相信如果每个人都这样做，世界将会变得更美好。
